Spooky hockey!!!1!

Well, not spooky, just hockey.

But there is a costume contest at Agganis for the game Saturday against the Lowell Riverhawks, so come in costume. I do it every game.

o/u for HDJ costumes (not including us) - 2

(I'm going over)

BU vs. BC - Women's Hockey!

BC sucks. Their women's hockey team is alright, but as a community, they are not good.

So, on Monday, BU gets a chance to get the season series (which BC leads 3-0) a little closer. BU hosts the BC women's ice hockey team on Monday, November 2, at 7 p.m. Good thing is the World Series doesn't start until 7:57 that night!

Come on out to Walter Brown Arena - it's long-sleeve t-shirt give away. Right in time for fall, and right before they run out and pass out the short-sleeves. See you there!!!!

What Happened To This Team?

They were good. At one point. Then conference play came and everything changed.

I don't get it. They beat St. John's, now the no. 22 team in the nation. They beat UConn, at UConn, who is now the no. 10 team in the country.

But they have just one win in five conference games and are in VERY seriously jeopardy of not making the America East playoffs. They need to win out (two games) to even get a chance to play postseason soccer. It starts Wednesday in Vermont in a must-win game for both teams. Basically, the loser is eliminated from any postseason opportunities.

I just don't get it. This team had a lot of weapons. Granted, Sean Taylor was lost for the year with the ongoing injury. But I guess the loss of one player in particular was just too much.

Jon Jonsson. He may not have made the biggest impact on the field, but his locker room leadership, I've heard, was unmatched. Losing him might have actually really been the changing factor for the team.

That's too bad. There is some good news though - Jon Jonsson makes a glorious return to BU on November 3d. He won't be suited up in a uniform, but he will be performing his everlasting music at the Tsai center at 8 p.m.. You best believe I will be there.

Bubble Hockey?

Hey, BU might not beat BC this year on real ice. But in BU Central that can occur on a daily basis. That's right, bubble hockey.

I've always had a soft spot for bubble hockey. I don't know what it is, but it's a fascination that is unparalleled and now that it's at BU...how much work am I going to get done???

Whatever, it'll be worth it.

Tip-Off

Coach Chambers quickly showed that he is in no way, shape, or form anyway like Dennis Wolff.

My new favorite coach of all time entered Case Gym. He went right to the scorers table, stood up on it, and threw t-shirts to the crowd. He screamed, he chanted, he yelled. He even stripped his jacket off.

It was kind of like that ^^. He got people genuinely excited about basketball, and that's something I really have never seen before at BU. There was a buzz when Chambers was done speaking. Everyone was curious as to what this season is going to be like, because BU hasn't had a coach this pumped for basketball in 15 years.

On top of that the men's team busted off a sicknasty dance to a Michael Jackson medly with the BUDT (who flashed a lot more exposed skin than usual). I was watching closely - hands down, Tunde has the illest moves on the team. If all else fails in his life he could potentially lead Status Quo. Status Quo, by the way, didn't leave the court for at least 10 minutes. 10!!!!! I used up most of the airhorn I had brought trying to get them off. We needed keyboard cat to play them off.

And the giveaways!! I got so much free stuff. YOU CAN"T BEAT FREE STUFF ON A FRIDAY NIGHT.

I had fun last night. BDCP makes me love him more and more every day, and that's not possible without the band, who were really bumping and grinding with each other before the whole event started.

But boy, Coach Chambers makes me really, really anxious for the first men's basketball game at Iona in just 20 days! This video made me come inches of purchasing a round-trip flight to PR!

BREAKING NEWS: This is the season to go sleeveless

The Hot Dog and Jesus have come to the official ruling that this is the (basketball) season to go sleeveless.

Godspeed.

Thank You Raptor Jesus, Basketball Is Back

Tomorrow night the season "officially" begins at The Roof at 9 pm sharp. Men's and women's basketball will hold their annual Terrier Tip-Off. For the men it means the introduction of a new coaching regime. For the women it means the introduction of many, many new players.

I'm thoroughly excited - more excited for Tip-Off than the game loss against Michigan in hockey the following evening.

What's even better is that our friends from Status Quo will be on hand! Watch out, dance team!

October 20, 2009

What is this, 2007-08?

Because that's what it felt like at Agganis Arena, only without the Brett Bennett.

What more can I say, really? ND sucked, but the Terriers somehow sucked more.

Whatever, basketball starts Friday, and like I mentioned earlier, that's the team to be pumped for. At least we got spoiled by last year's Burn the Boats team!

And also, I don't make the "Dirty Laundry," but I do print off over 200 copies for the student sections. I use BU printers, but ones that I've found out don't get tracked by the insanely low print quota. This video has been making the rounds, and I hope someone from administration sees it because a 100 page/semester quota is downright Nazi-Germany circa 1939-esque.

Increase that. Now.

DOUBLEHEADERS?

I like siamese twins. Two heads are better than one?

Soccer is fun.

Remember when we beat the number one team in the country? That was fun, but FREE STAINLESS STEEL WATER BOTTLES ARE EVEN COOLER!!!!!!

This Wednesday, come support title IX and then grab free samples of EXTREME! Pita after Women's Soccer at 4pm vs. Bryant University (the real BU football). Then the men take on UMBC at 7pm with a waterbottle incentive to the first 100.

BUT WHY COACH, WHY

This is a picture from my phone. At 3:51 AM, Saturday morning after helping set up the Agganis basketball court. After witnessing a bunch of hicks drink themselves silly at the Zach Brown Band concert, Agganis switched over to the basketball court for a one-day practice at Agganis. It took 5 hours to set up. It was taken down 12 hours later. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME COACH? I haven't been this angry since we were underrepresented in the BU girls lax pumpkin carving contest last year:

THEY DIDN'T EVEN CARVE ANYTHING!

But in every view from a sane perspective, this is just one of the many acts of ABSURD dedication that you will see Chambers instituting as new BU coach. Did Wolff ever hold an Agganis practice when it didn't revolve around an Agganis game? Not once since Agganis has been built. With all the historically awful statistics the team has put up in that building, the extra minutes they spend practicing there might have unbelievable effects, and Chambers will be the first one to give it a go.

This man means business. And the only thing stopping him? One word: Plastics.

And what's the deal with deviled eggs?

Are there jesused eggs too?

October 14, 2009

Yup

More and more is coming out about the trio that Coach Chambers just landed - Dominic Morris, Travis Robinson, and H.J. Gaskins.

All from Philly.

All play together.

All consider each other brothers.

I keep thinking about what Chambers' office was like when the call came in from the three of them saying they're coming to BU. It's like the reverse of a nightmare with all the same excitement. Morris is supposed to be the crown jewel of the three, as he was getting looks from Siena, Providence, Penn State, among others.

THIS IS HUGE FOR THE PROGRAM. HUGE. Already, it's becoming clear that DW's recruiting abilities won't be lost. Chambers' is plucking from a very talented basketball area in Philadelphia, just like another AE coach (he coaches at Hartford.) He is cleaning up I tell ya and it's all about that ATTITUDE.

As JoMo at America Least puts it:

I tell you what folks, Chambers is putting some serious fear into me at a UAlbany fan. This guy is building a winner, and I am not talking about one of these one year wonder type winners. I think BU fans in the next five years are going to be asking themselves, "how the hell do we hold on to this guy?"

A team is being built that will reside at the top of the conference for years to come.

I don't need to remind you, this is the opposite of Binghamton and I've never been prouder.

And in case you haven't heard, Coach Broadus isn't a coach anymore! Well, kind of. He's taking a paid leave of absence. How come he's not full on fired? This way is cheaper for the school. I have to admit I'm a little upset. I was really, really looking forward to trying my hardest to make a grown, black man cry on February 17, 2010.

Basketball season starts on October 23, for me at least - Terrier Tip-Off. People, really, be more excited about basketball than any other sport this year.

October 13, 2009

BU is a little (meaning a lot) better than Binghamton

So Binghamton has STILL been at the center of America East controversy as the school has now decided that Kevin Broadus shouldn't leave the confines of Vestal.

The school announced that they would temporarily suspend off-campus recruiting due to Coach Broadus' recent illegal contact with recruits after the actual meeting period ended.

HOW DOES THIS MAN STILL HAVE A JOB?

Regardless, that's good news for BU and Coach Chambers as he begins cleaning up on the recruiting trail with his guys.

Check out who has committed so far (plus their scout grades according to ESPN):

Travis Robinson (SF/89)
Dominic Morris (PF/86)
Mike Terry (SG/85)
Anthony Mayo (C/82)
Henry Gaskins (PG/72)

Hey, that's a new starting 5 and it's all Chambers own players.

I'll tell ya, Coach Chambers could charm the pants off Dennis Wolff, and that man NEVER smiled.

I LIKE HOCKEY

Sure, I like to pretend I care as much about EVERY team here at BU. But let's be serious...I actually don't.

And so it's said. Hockey season is upon us.

Colby Cohen's play was stellar last night. If his skills were a facial expression, it would be something like this:

And whats the deal with hand sanitizer?

It's Here! (Update)

BURN THE BOATS

Buy it here.

UPDATE: This book is GOOD. In the face of a paper, a midterm, a documentary on Asian can collectors, I can't stop reading it. And when I do I'm overly reluctant. Thanks BU hockey, for making reading fun.

October 3, 2009

HOCKEY IS HERE

Hockey starts today at Boston University. St. Francis Xavier University, hailing from Canada, was in the city yesterday. They were around Fenway Park when I saw their borderline hilarious bus:

They'll be at Agganis tonight to take on the hockey team - a team that hasn't yet played together all at the same time. The team isn't allowed to officially begin playing together until today, so why not bring a bunch of Canadians in?

I won't be able to make the game tonight, and to me, that's no big deal because this is as exhibition as it gets, but I've been watching and re-watching the season highlights from last year courtesy of Candycanes99, a true innovator.

If you want a copy of the 30-minute highlight video, which I highly recommend, you can contact him at BUhighlights@gmail.com.

Finally, there's a new center ice logo. Look out for it tonight:

GO BU!

Why Couldn't We Schedule UAF????

This is the opening video for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks hockey team. There is truly only one word that can be used to describe it: AWESOME.

If there was a game in Alaska, I'd go just to see this video live.
