Time To Give Some Credit

...where credit is due.

Besides the men's hockey team there is one other team that won more than one game in the NCAA tournament. And for three magnificent days this team kept me by my computer and kept me refreshing gametracker:

The women's softball team.

They dealt with constant rain and delays and won 2 games in the NCAA tournament. Second most among BU athletic teams.

BU faced off against #14 Georgia Tech in their first match of the double elimination regional. BU was actually up 1-0 before surrendering 5 runs later in that inning they put 1 on the board. The final was 5-1.

The stiff competition didn't end there - BU drew Iowa the next day. Cassidy Hardy pitched a complete game, 7-hitter and shutdown the Hawkeyes to on run. BU didn't even need a bottom frame of the 7th with 3 runs already on scored in their favor.

It was originally scheduled to have BU's next game come later that day against Auburn (who lost to GT), but rain and delays forced the game to be moved to the following day.

BU didn't flinch at the SEC competition. Hardy pitched another gem, this time a 3-hitter. Meanwhile, the BU bats came alive, dinging 3 HRs in total - 2 in the first inning and one in the bottom of the sixth.

Without much rest, BU had to take the field later that day against GT again. They would've had to win twice to advance, but it just wasn't meant to be. Hardy pitched again, and after 4 innings the score was knotted at 2. GT just had too much and added 5 runs in the next two innings to take the game and the regional.

Nonetheless, BU proved itself and gave the conference plenty of street cred.

A 40-plus win season, 2-tournament wins, a couple no-hitters, and arguably one of the best looking teams on campus - I'll chalk the season up as a success. Way to go, ladies. We're proud of ya.
